C'mon, Get Tappy!
After years of hiding your tap shoes, it’s time to pull them out and hoof it down to Fair Park, where you can join the Fab-TAP-ulous fun with tons of fellow dance lovers thanks to the Dallas Dance Council of North Texas and Dallas Summer Musicals. This sweet duo is honoring the art form made famous by Bill “Bojangles” Robinson as part of the National Tap Dance Celebration. All week long you can enjoy an appetizer of tap dancing delight with a pre-show that features dozens of dancers paradiddling and shuffle ball changing their stuff before each performance of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert. Closing out each evening’s event will be an audience-included rendition of the National Anthem of Tap, aka The Shim Sham, led by 90-year-old dance legend Buster Cooper. Tap’s on tap from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Tuesday 21 through May 25 at the Music Hall at Fair Park, 909 First Ave. The event is free. Call 214-882-8967 or visit thedancecouncil.org.
