Come On Get Happy
In a culture where it's hardly worth the effort to bleep out profanity on ABC Family, the only time you hear "taboo" anymore may be in reference to the Black Eyed Peas. But upon mention of "depression," conversations can go awkwardly silent. In a memoir that Publisher's Weekly calls "inspiring" and "brutal," Julie K. Hersh aims to quell the stigma of this mental illness and comfort those who are battling it by telling the story of her own struggle with clinical depression. In her book, Struck by Living: From Depression to Hope, Hersh chronicles the private battle that drove her to attempt suicide despite living a seemingly happy life with a loving family and a successful career. Hersh will discuss and sign her book 7 p.m. Thursday at Barnes & Noble, 7700 West Northwest Hwy, Suite 300. Visit struckbyliving.com for more info.
