"Western swing ain't dead, it's Asleep at the Wheel." So goes the slogan for big Ray Benson's beloved ensemble, the band that's kept Bob Wills alive for longer than he's been dead while touring everywhere from Texas to Timbuktu. Most western swing bands only sport twin fiddles, but this Friday Asleep at the Wheel will have all the strings of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra at their disposal, meaning "Big Balls in Cowtown" is about to sound a whole lot bigger. Band and orchestra unite at 8 p.m. Friday for a set of symphonic western swing hits at Bass Hall, 4th and Calhoun Streets in Fort Worth. Tickets are $29 to $99. Call 817-665-6000 or visit fwsymphony.org.
Fri., Jan. 5, 8 p.m.
