Conduit Goes Modern
All three artists currently on display at Conduit Gallery are worthy of a visit, but James Michael Starr's work in Modern Times is especially intriguing. A great example of his creative sculptures is "Continental Divide," a hefty streamer-trailing iron ball wrapped in vintage images of homes, steeples and columns from books and newspapers. Other Starr works use early 20th century items such as ceramic doll heads, bird cages and furniture in completely unexpected yet somehow familiar ways. Rounding out the gallery wares are Roberto Mungui's Wabi Sabi--abstract gouache and encaustic works on clay board--and Ellen George's Prairie Notes, composed of miniature biomorphic polymer forms. Check them out during gallery hours, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays (through December 31) at Conduit Gallery, 1626 C Hi Line Drive. Call 214-939-0064 or visit conduitgallery.com for more information.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: Nov. 30. Continues through Dec. 31, 2010
