Crunk Dunks

We could pretend that we know a lot about basketball and the Harlem Globetrotters' many contributions to the sport. We could talk about the team's championship win at the 1940 World Professional Basketball Tournament. We could detail the team's historic triumphs over the (ahem, all-white) Minneapolis Lakers in the late 1940s. In any other case, we'd make a lame joke about owner Abe Saperstein buying the team in 1927 and, despite being based in Chicago, changing their name from "Saperstein's New York Globetrotters" to "Harlem Globetrotters." But you probably love the Globetrotters for the same reason that we love the Globetrotters: They gots super crazy moves. And, like us, you also love their Hanna-Barbera Saturday morning cartoon show. If not, you must have loved their zany guest appearances on Scooby-Doo and Gilligan's Island. Admit it, you love watching pro athletes solve mysteries and catch diamond thieves and get stranded on desert islands. Just like anybody else. Practice whistling "Sweet Georgia Brown" and head on down to watch the Harlem Globetrotters make complete and total fools of their adversaries, 7 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday at the American Airlines Center, 2500 Victory St. Ticket prices run from $15.50 to $135. For tickets and availability, call 214-373-8000 or visit
Fri., Feb. 2, 7 p.m.; Sat., Feb. 3, 1 p.m.
