A couple of years ago I was treated to a dance recital at a local institution of higher education. Maybe it was my closed-minded nature (or the soloist who danced for the entirety of "Purple Rain"), but I didn't enjoy it very much, and I swore to myself that I would never sit through another dance performance again. Dancing schmancing, I've always said. If only I had heard of this Garth Fagan guy earlier. The choreographer behind Broadway's The Lion King, Fagan gives us an accessible form of dance that anyone could enjoy. Think of it as a cross between ballet and break dancing or postmodern dance meets The Matrix. Perhaps Fagan can rebuild faith in an art form that people like me thought had already moved out. Now in their 35th year, Garth Fagan Dance will perform at the Eisemann Center in Richardson.
Fri., Jan. 13, 8 p.m.
