It's 2010. We thought we'd have flying cars and jet packs. We do not. But, what we do have is burlesque. Is that an even trade? Some think so. If your last hours of 2009 weren't seductive enough, you get another chance at The Crystal Palace Burlesque Revue, La Divina Productions' first burlesque spectacular of the new decade. Thanks to professionals like Dita von Teese, burlesque is as popular now as it was in the days of Bettie Page and the early pin-up scene. There's an entire subculture devoted to it, including photo shoots, dancing classes, clothing and beauty products, and elaborate productions. In other words, with shows like The Crystal Palace Burlesque Revue, the retro art form moves into 2010 alive and kicking (and shimmying and winking) with no jet packs necessary. Come out and see for yourself when the award-winning Catherine D'Lish joins Angela Ryan, Athena Fatale, Ginger Valentine and other fantastic femmes onstage to bump, grind and seduce audience members--in a totally tasteful way, of course. The Crystal Palace Burlesque Revue is at 9:30 p.m., January 23 at the Lakewood Theater, 1827 Abrams Way. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 to $30. Call 214-821-7469 or visit ladivinaburlesque.com.
