If intercepted web chatter is any indication, the only thing necessary to say is that Parker Posey will read you a story in the DMA’s Horchow Auditorium (1717 N. Harwood St.) as part of beloved NPR literary series Selected Shorts. The evening’s theme is Danger and Desire: Tales of Hopper’s City, and it serves as a tie-in to the institution’s current run of the artist’s process sketches. To further ice that cake, actress Kaneza Schall and Academy Award nominee David Straithairn will join Posey on stage in a series of dramatic recitations intended to evoke the essence of Edward Hopper’s paintings. If this is the first you’ve heard about it, you’ll be crushed to learn that auditorium tickets have sold out. However, $15 will get you into the video simulcast in adjacent C3 Theatre. And if you think about it, watching from a remove can only enhance the sense of estrangement and isolation that pervades Hopper’s work. Show starts at 7 p.m. Saturday. Get there early for the chance to upgrade if/when auditorium seats become available. Visit dma.org.
