Deathmatch in the Death Star
In his quest to bring us the biggest, most exciting sporting and live entertainment events North Texas has ever seen (you know, like that U2 show in October where 70,000 of us were treated to the most distorted acoustics this side of the 4H barn in Olney, Texas), Jerry Jones appeals to the pugilist set with his upcoming rumble in the Death Star featuring welterweights Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey. Of course, this was originally supposed to be a monster fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr., which would have sold a zillion tickets in about two seconds and had ESPN commentators' heads spinning. But alas, Mayweather wanted Pacquiao to take additional drug tests (scandalous!), Pacquiao refused, and now Jerry's selling tickets to Pacquiao versus Clottey. Honestly, though, the way Pacquiao's been fighting, Mayweather is probably lucky he's not in the ring. In a November fight against Miguel Cotto, Pacquiao's punches were so fast and furious, Cotto's wife had to take her children from the ring to shield them from the beating Daddy was enduring. Even a legend like Mayweather is no match for the insane barrage of fast punches the lefty is famous for. We'll keep our fingers crossed for sweet-tempered Clottey, but man, oh man...good luck. Buy your tickets ASAP for this one, which starts 5 p.m. Saturday in Cowboys Stadium, 1 Legends Way in Arlington. Prices start at $100. Visit ticketmaster.com.
