Dennis The Menace
Comedian Dennis Miller hated on Ronald Reagan as much as any other comedian in the 1980s, but when 9/11 happened, the self-described libertarian was among the first celebrities calling for Dubya to nuke the Middle East back into the Stone Age. Of course, no one ever accused Miller of being overly thoughtful--if you watch him spew his pop-culture-reference-laced tirades on old Weekend Update episodes, it's easy to see the seeds of a conservative radio shock jock being planted. Politics aside, there's no doubt there's a real comedic mind working beneath all that vocabulary, but sometimes it's hard to remember when he says stuff like "I would call the French scumbags, but that, of course, would be a disservice to bags filled with scum." Personally, I think this ramp-up in bitterness--and I don't want to go off on a rant here--has more to do with the fact he was passed up for a Best Supporting Actor nod for The Net than his reaction to 9/11. Then again, both did feature planes crashing into towers, so maybe that's just a thing with him...of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong. Dennis Miller takes the stage 8 p.m. Saturday at the Nokia Theatre at Grand Prairie. Tickets are $49.75 to $79.75. Visit ticketmaster.com.
