Many artists have found inspiration in the world of animals; we humans are a part of it, after all, descended from the ape so that we might learn to paint them in oils and pastels. However, finding "stimulation in the Kingdom Animalia" sounds like something different altogether (was Catherine the Great a painter?). Kingdom Animalia: Creatures Big and Small by Artists Old and New features works by the old school (John James Audubon, Charles Paul Renouard, Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes) and the new school (John Alexander, Melissa Miller, David Deming) of rendering critters. Notice how the old dudes have much cooler names. Catch it from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday (through December 23) at the Valley House Gallery & Sculpture Garden, 6616 Spring Valley Road. Mondays-Thursdays, Saturdays. Starts: Dec. 11. Continues through Dec. 23
