Drawing the Line
I've attempted to draw the perfect rocket ship since I was around 5 years old. I am incapable of such an achievement. For more decades than I can to admit, this simple achievement has eluded me. And I'm not talking about some crazy-detailed NASA-worthy model, I'm just going for the bubble-shaped, pointy thing with fins. The 1950s comic kind even the Rocketeer would have sneered at. Can't do it. Got not even one cell of drawing talent in this body. But there are eight peeps who couldand havedrawn miles and miles of lines around me. The Holly Johnson Gallery has gathered works from drawing masters John Adelman, Kenneth James Beasley, Scott Calhoun, Alain Gerard Clement, Janaki Lennie, Kessica McCambley, William Steiger and Jackie Tileston for Drawing Conclusions, an exhibition that honors the art of drawing. By focusing on this groundwork for many other mediums of art, Conclusions includes a slew of topics from artist to artist. Draw your own conclusions through September 22 at the Holly Johnson Gallery, 1411 Dragon St. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday (closed August 21 through September 1). Call 214-369-0169 or visit hollyjohnsongallery.com. Since I haven't been to the show yet, I can't confirm the presence of any rocket ships, but my fingers are crossed there aren't any as that would just totally be rubbing my nose in it.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: July 28. Continues through Sept. 22, 2007
