Every Time a Bell Rings...
The holidays are as much about tradition as getting soused on brandy-spiked eggnog and passing out on the couch during the final minutes of the Rose Bowl. In our family, that's actually tradition. You probably have fond childhood memories of decorating gingerbread houses or visiting that sketchy Santa at the mall, but as you get older these annual events are often replaced by new traditions...you know, like drinking spiked eggnog during the Rose Bowl. Even if you're too big to sit in Santa's lap, you can feel like a kid again by enjoying a favorite holiday film like It's a Wonderful Life. Sure it's on television every year, but watching Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed on the big screen beats seeing it at the in-laws' house. In case you've been in the witness protection program for six decades, the Frank Capra classic chronicles the life of George Bailey, a man who dreams of seeing the world but ends up running the family business during a financial crisis. When the villainous Mr. Potter threatens to destroy the business, George wonders if the world would be better if he hadn't been born. With the help of his guardian angel, George realizes how, duh, wonderful life is. It's a Wonderful Life is showing tonight at Angelika Film Center, 5321 E. Mockingbird Lane.
