Fest For Fantasy
A disclaimer: At the recent Dallas International Film Festival, I saw 27 movies in nine days. Most were great, a select few were awesome, and a couple I should have skipped for a meal of non-concession stand snacks, but, exhausting as it was, I would do it all again because film festing is where it's at. If my DIFF experience seems a bit daunting, you can try your hand at festing with the less intensive but impressively programmed USA Film Festival this week. Celebrating its 41st year, the USA Film Festival features over 20 titles including notable films like Radio Free Albemuth, The Trip, White Irish Drinkers, and Warriors of the Discotheque: The Starck Club Documentary. In addition to the films, the festival features tributes to actors Barry Corbin, Malcolm McDowell and William Fichtner, all of whom will all be in attendance, as well as appearances by various cast and crew members from screened films. Opening night includes a special screening of the Cary Grant classic To Catch A Thief (followed by a conversation with his daughter Jennifer Grant), and a screening of Nick Tomnay's crime comedy The Perfect Host, starring David Hyde Pierce (both director and actor will be in attendance). The USA Film Festival runs continues through Sunday at the Angelika Film Center, 5321 E. Mockingbird Lane. Tickets for all programs are $10.
