Fishing For A Holiday Hit

Small-town Christmas is the best. Of course, the big city has its perks during the holiday season — ice-skating rinks, ballet productions and shopping meccas chief among them — but it almost seems that the Christmas spirit looms largest in the tiniest of hamlets. It’s the places where the local bank practically shuts down one day before Christmas to host Santa Claus and serve hot chocolate and where the volunteer fire department puts on a holiday parade featuring three pickup trucks and a horse. Tuna, Texas — the third smallest town in the state — has long been the fictional embodiment of such places, and A Tuna Christmas documents all the charms of the holiday experience, including a local contest for best lawn décor that’ll bring back memories for anyone hailing from rural Texas. Theatre Arlington, 305 W. Main St., takes on this production with gusto, casting Eric Dobbins and Shane Strawbridge in 22 different but equally eccentric roles. Take in the heart-warming and hilarious production of the Lone Star State favorite through December 22 with shows at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays and 5:30 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $20 at
