Freeze Up A Sweat
To be kind, let’s just say that your Olympic opportunity never quite arrived. Your dog-paddle wasn’t the stuff of body-waxed giants. Your ice skating experience is limited to slapstick laps at the Galleria. Let’s not discuss the gymnast phase. Still, you’d like to think that even at your age and current level of poor athleticism, some gold medal victory may still await. Hey, how about curling? It’s the most baffling sport of the bunch, what with all of the sweeping and slow-walking, and it seems like you can hop in at any age. Naturally, the problem here is you don’t know the first thing about the sport, where to try playing it or have any friends with equally ambitious Olympic tendencies. Well, not yet anyway. The Dallas/Fort Worth Curling Club hosts an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Dr Pepper Starcenter (12700 N. Semmons Freeway, Farmers Branch). For $25 at the door ($20 in advance at dfwcurling.com) you’ll get complete immersion in the Olympics’ least-understood event. You’ll learn strategy, terminology and sweeping techniques and best of all, you get to wear comfortable shoes. Yes, it’s perfect. Visit dfwcurling.com. Show up in a light jacket and tennis shoes
