I spend a lot of time in parks these days, and while I’m running back and forth prying acorns out of a toddler’s mouth and regulating whose turn it is on the slide (before the hair pulling starts), I’m often staring wistfully at a field just south of the playground proper — one frequently populated by a kickball league. The kickballers are grown-ass adults, gleefully sending those bouncy balls into the outfield and running bases like they’re Ian freakin’ Kinsler. It looks like so much fun. Just watching it takes you back to the days where your biggest problem was whether you got picked for the red team or the blue team. Harken back to those simple times as you watch the Cougars vs. Kittens double elimination adult kickball tournament on Saturday, March 31. These ladies let the fur fly as over-30 gals (the titular “cougars”) battle the under-30s (the “kittens”) for the benefit of the SPCA of Texas. Claws are being sharpened for a 9:15 a.m. kickoff at Randol Mill Park, 1901 Randol Mill Road in Arlington. Visit cougarsvskittens.net.
