Gobbling Up the City’s Best
Sure, you live on soup and rice for the other 364 days of the year, but Thursday is Thanksgiving. That means gluttony of vast proportions, hopefully prepared by someone other than you. So splurge, do it right. Feast until you collapse, drooling on a horn of plenty. This is freaking America. This is how we roll. If you’re taking the highbrow road to dining, why not go all the way with brunch or dinner at the Omni (555 S. Lamar St.)? Interior dining gem Texas Spice serves brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with all of your Turkey Day favorites prepared by the hotel’s best chefs. It comes with a fixed price of $49 for adults and $19 for children ages 5 to 12. Dinner is also holiday-themed, but what you order is up to you. Visit omnihotels.com. Over at Smoke (901 Fort Worth Ave.), you can actually eat the salad of your fantasies. They’re serving up kale and roasted pumpkin topped with a smoked duck, ham and warm bacon vinaigrette, which after reading three times I still believe to be a work of fiction. From there, it only gets more decadent. Choose among dry-rubbed pork spare ribs with mac and cheese and pickled green beans; fresh fish (nobody’s getting that); or a doozy of a thing called the Family Style Tradition. That last one is more meat than Fred Flintstone can pile on the roof of his sedan. It runs from 5 to 9 p.m. and prices vary. Visit smokerestaurant.com for reservations and a full menu. Over at Medieval Times (2021 N. Stemmons Freeway), you’ll fest like royalty while being socially conscious. Those fabulous knights, serfs and falconers will donate $10 from each ticket sold on Thanksgiving to Typhoon Haiyan victims in the Philippines. Yep, those knights rule. Plus, spending Thanksgiving in a Spanish-influenced medieval castle positioned just off the highway is almost the most American thing you could do, so get hot on that. Visit medievaltimes.com.
