Good Points

I don't know exactly when it happened, but at some point Sprint Nextel became a big player in the art game. Don't believe me? Then check out Cardinal Points/Puntos Cardinales: A Survey of Contemporary Latino and Latin America Art from the Sprint Nextel Art Collection. The exhibit features 56 works (presumably acquired through the company's surplus of overage and texting fees) encompassing the major trends found in Latin American art of the past two decades. With accompanying text in both English and Spanish, Cardinal Points is presented in four portions—The Figure as Symbol, Nature, Seen and Transformed and Mapping the Real Imaginary and Narratives—admirably breaking down the many cultures, groups and viewpoints of the Latin American world and the art it produces. The show includes work by acclaimed artists Mario Algaze, Luis Cruz Azaceta, Laura Anderson Barbata, Enrique Chagoya, Carmen Lomas Garza, Graciela Iturbide and many more. See it now through April 15 at the Latino Cultural Center, 2600 Live Oak St. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Call 214-670-3320 or visit
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: Feb. 14. Continues through April 15, 2008
