Growth Potential

Fahamu Pecou gained attention with his self-marketing "Fahamu Pecou is the Shit" campaign, depicting his likeness on magazines like Artforum, Flash Art and Interview. His current exhibit, Stunt'd Like My Daddy, is presumably named for the similarly titled Birdman and Lil' Wayne song "Stuntin' Like My Daddy," which celebrates the coke-money high life. Considering that Pecou's exhibit confronts "the imposition of stereotypes on the black male in the media, art and society," though, I'm guessing Stunt'd refers as much to growth hindrance as it does to flashy jewelry. Franco Mondini-Ruiz's The Powder Room arranges paintings and sculptures in a botanica setting inspired by folk-medicine markets, commenting on consumerism and the value of art. Both exhibits are on display 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays through November 15 at Conduit Gallery, 1626 C Hi Line Drive. Visit conduitgallery.com.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: Oct. 18. Continues through Nov. 15, 2008
