If you were one of the unlucky ones who missed awesome early '80s events like the Us Festival or the Texas Jam back in '78 then this is the week to redeem yourself. The Texas Metal Jam is swooping down upon Dallas like a spandex-clad bald eagle of pure rock! A veritable dream-team of '80s metal luminaries will be strutting their tight leather stuff for every acid-washed-jean-wearing hairspray addict in town. Check out this lineup: Vince Neil, Dokken, Warrant, Slaughter and...um...Enuff Znuff (well, no plan is perfect). This just may be the largest gathering of glam-metal superheroes since Reagan left the White House. Every one of these acts has at least one song that every 1980s veteran will recognize and possibly cherish. Vince Neil, of course, was the voice of the greatest band ever, Mötley Crüe. No further explanation necessary. Warrant were the white leather poster boys of '80s glam, every teenage metal girl's dream date. Dokken are living legends with a still-thriving cult following. And Slaughter were from Las Vegas. That is pretty cool, right? Basically, if you've ever worn a zebra-striped headband or held up a poster of Jani Lane with one hand, this is the event for you! The Texas Metal Jam kicks off 5 p.m. Friday at the Palladium Ballroom, 1135 S. Lamar St. Tickets are $45. Visit ticketmaster.com.
Fri., Aug. 24, 5 p.m.
