Musical theater's rampant burlesque theme, made popular in shows such as Gypsy and Cabaret, is apparently still alive and well. Not too surprising, since scantily clad dancers have been a stable ticket-seller since the beginning. There's just something about long legs, garter belts and flapper dresses that equates to magic for musical theater enthusiasts. Teatro Dallas' Orinoco! revives the tradition with the story of two aspiring showgirls with "third-world innocence yet hard-living personalities," who entertain a ship's crew en route to a Venezuelan oil field. Orinoco! runs Friday through March 15 with performances at 8:15 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays. Visit TeatroDallas.org for tickets.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8:15 p.m.; Sundays, 3 p.m. Starts: Feb. 20. Continues through March 15, 2009
