Hot Art Child in the City
Doesn’t the summer give you fits of country-life longing? When the concrete radiates the heat right through your soul (and your soles) and the buildings reflect light and your car runs hot, hot, hotter as it idles on a baking stretch of U.S. 75 ... we pine for grass and shade and lemonade. But while the country life offers certain pastoral comforts, city life brings the Dallas Arts District Summer Block Party. Only in Dallas do you get a family-friendly — and free — bash of this magnitude. From 6 p.m. until midnight on Friday, enjoy the best of summertime in the city. Hop between food trucks for sno-cones, barbecue, tacos or just about anything you’re hungry for. Spread out a blanket at the Nasher Sculpture Center and view Wes Anderson’s Moonlight Kingdom at 9 p.m., or take in a progressive tour of the Dallas Museum of Art, the Nasher and the Crow Collection of Asian Art at 7 or 9 p.m. Capture the essence of summer in the city in an Instagram challenge that starts at 7 p.m., or head over to Klyde Warren Park to engage in a heated badminton match. There’s also live music from Morrissey-sanctioned Girl in a Coma in the DMA Atrium at 9 p.m. Experience city living at its very best in the Dallas Arts District, along Flora and Harwood streets.
