While the Texas Theatre (231 W. Jefferson Blvd.) has 650 perfectly good seats in its time-trapped interior, you won’t be using any of them on Friday night. Nope. Instead, you’re invited to explore a less visited space. See, the theater has adopted a wonderfully innovative new monthly series that beckons you to press on, past the front row, up the tiny stairs stage left and into the narrow backstage area. There you’ll find folding chairs arranged club-style for a night of local stand-up fittingly titled Behind-the-Screen Comedy. It’s damn charming. Hosted by Elizabeth Howard, you’ll get a sampling of Dallas stand-up as dished out by talents Adam Buck, Michele Benson, Josh Johnson and Brad LaCour, all for a piddly $5. The lobby bar is open, so the laughs come a bit easier, and you can munch on popcorn throughout, which makes even the most uncomfortable comedy situation so much more bearable. This intimate show starts at 11 p.m. and fills early. Visit thetexastheatre.com.
