Whenever I hear about a Wayans bother, I immediately think of Scary Movie (s) 1-27. But Damon Wayans is one of the other brothers; not either of the ones that can take credit for that ground breaking franchise. Damon Wayans is the more, shall we say, critically acclaimed brother whose turnabouts on In Living Color (back in the 1990s) and My Wife and Kids (in the early 2000s, but who cares) have set him apart from his theatrical family. Having once, accidentally, watched My Wife and Kids, I will say that Wayans is definitely funny as an eccentric patriarch; however, I am slightly skeptical as to how that translates into amusing (or even tolerable) stand-up. Not a stranger to comedy, Wayans was once a performer on Saturday Night Live...that is, before he got kicked off the show for something other than not being funny. Should make for interesting fodder in his stand-up comedy. Damon will be at the Arlington Improv, Thursday through Sunday. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Thursday, 7 and 10 p.m. Friday, 8 and 10:30 p.m. Saturday, and 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Visit improv.com for tickets and more information.
