If you want to start a fight (not that we'd condone it), head to Denton this weekend and proclaim loudly how lousy the arts scene is there. Be warned, though. You will find yourself receiving the business end of a sausage-on-a-stick mighty quick because The Denton Arts and Jazz Festival is a-happenin' at Civic Center Park. The festival boasts fine arts and crafts, children's art activities, games, a juried fine arts and craft show, face painting, rock climbing, those bouncy ride things and a playground for the young attendees, train rides, used books for sale, pet adoption and all the typical food and drinks you might expect. The music and dancing performed on six different stages range from cute to quaint to formidable. There are too many to mention but some highlights include Little Jack Melody and the Young Turks, Pops Carter and the Funkmonsters, McCoy Tyner Trio, Tom Faulkner, Susan Tedeschi and the always enjoyable Brave Combo closing the festivities Sunday night. Check out some art and all that jazz 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. Visit dentonjazzfest.com for directions, schedules and other information.
Thu., April 26, 5-11 p.m.; Fri., April 27, 10 a.m.-11 p.m.; Sat., April 28, 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
