Killer Mutant Leeches! Hollywood has forgotten how to make a good horror movie. They're no longer terrifying or even mildly scary. They slaughter dumb, young adults who don’t have enough sense to stay away from the house with skulls hanging from the porch or to put down the GoPro when their friends are being eaten. It’s sad when you find yourself longing for the days when horror directors had no budgets and thought an enlarged version of a small creature was a concept scary enough to merit a whole movie. The Pocket Sandwich Theatre (5400 E. Mockingbird Lane, #119) will harken back to that special time in cinema with their interactive, '50s horror parody of Attack of the Killer Mutant Leeches! It tells the story of a small town attacked by giant leeches, and it’s up to a plucky group of survivors and an audience armed with popcorn to unite and send the leeches back to the radioactive scum pond from whence they came. The play opens at 8 p.m. Friday, January 2 and continues at 7 or 8 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays until Saturday, February 14. Tickets at pocketsandwich.com.
Thursdays-Sundays, 8 p.m. Starts: Jan. 2. Continues through Feb. 14, 2015
