Knights of NYC
After I saw Monty Python and the Holy Grail with friends in junior high, we spent about the next decade quoting it back and forth. "I'm not dead yet!" "And he's got big fangs, like this." "I fart in your general direction." It was funny to us and annoying to everyone else on the planet (Like, on an annoying scale of one to 10, with one being bug bites and 10 being Ben Affleck talking politics with Bill Maher, we were a solid four). But the whole time we were annoyingly quoting the movie, all I could think was, "Man, after someone writes a totally lame wedding musical with only ABBA songs in it, I should write a shameless musical parody version of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I bet I'd win a Tony for it in 2005. Success is mine!" Sadly, some bag o' douche beat me to it. Damn Eric Idle, stealing his own jokes. At 8 p.m. Wednesday, see Monty Python's Spamalot (one of several musicals coming to Dallas as a part of Dallas Summer Musicals) at the Music Hall at Fair Park, 909 1st Ave. Tickets range from $32 to $74 (all depending on whether or not you can tell them the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow). Call 214-421-5678 or visit dallassummermusicals.org.
Tuesdays-Sundays, 8 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, 2 p.m.; Thu., June 28, 2 p.m.; July 3-8, 8 p.m. Starts: June 19. Continues through July 8
