Ma And Pa Sing
As kids, we were obsessed with the Little House on the Prairie books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Being eight-year-olds, nineteenth-century life on the prairie complete with Indians, wolves and a snug little house to keep the family safe looked pretty good to us. There were 10 books in the series and we read each of them to pieces. If there had been a musical, we'd have gobbled that up too. Now there is one. Little House on the Prairie: the Musical tells the story of the Ingalls family's journey west, as Ma and Pa Ingalls struggle to find a better life for their children. If the story isn't enough to get you to the theater, the music should be. Famed film composer Rachel Portman--who scored Chocolat--wrote the music, and the show has that hummable, gingham bonnet quality that gets in your head and stays there for awhile. See it 8 p.m. Tuesday (with additional showings through May 23) at the Music Hall at Fair Park, 901 First Avenue. Tickets are $15 to $71.
