Maple Minuets

Most people think that ballet is all pink pointe shoes, tutus and the stuff of Swan Lake. But thanks to choreographers such as Alvin Ailey and Ohad Naharin, and contemporary ballet companies like Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal that perform said choreographers' cutting-edge and boundary-crossing works, ballet isn't stuck back in the days of Mozart and Tchaikovsky. Indeed, the company honors the foundations of dance's most graceful genre, but it also pays close attention to modern elements, providing audiences (veteran and new alike) with mind-blowing visuals--a product of amazing athleticism and skill combined with stunning staging. Les Grands Ballets makes its Dallas debut performing Naharin's Minus One at the beautiful McFarlin Auditorium, 6405 Boaz Lane, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
