In late 1972, Hollywood released one of the greatest films in history. It's a tale of triumph and tragedy. It's a hero's journey in the tradition of classic works of literature such as The Odyssey. It is called The Poseidon Adventure. Most of you who have seen it may dismiss this film as just another in the glut of disaster movies that spewed forth from the mid-'70s like so much salt water through a torn bulkhead. However, this is not your average all-burning, all-screaming blockbuster. There isn't a dry eye to be found when Gene Hackman falls to his death, begging God not to kill any more passengers and shouting, "How many more lives?!?" Well, now this emotional roller coaster has been adapted into a hilarious stage musical and it's coming to Dallas' own Hub Theater. This fave of the New York International Fringe Festival promises to add an irreverent musical twist to the epic that will keep the audience stomping along and rooting for the characters to escape from their impending watery tomb. Poseidon! An Upside Down Musical is at the Hub Theater, 2809 Canton St. in Deep Ellum, at 8:15 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through June 26. Call 877-238-5596 or visit levelgroundarts.com for tickets and info.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: June 4. Continues through June 26, 2010
