At my house, Mother's Day lunch means one of two things: Cracker Barrel if we're "lucky"; Luby's (shudder) if we're not. The mom-in-law is getting on in years, so the choice of food runs from bland fare in a country kitschy setting to really, really bland fare in a cafeteria closely resembling a dining room in one of the more "affordable" nursing homes. It's a mother of a day indeed. Too bad the old battle—I mean, the wonderful mother of my bride—isn't a vegetarian: My colon and taste buds could use a break, perhaps at the Mother's Day Asian Food Festival at the International Buddhist Progressive Society, 1111 International Parkway in Richardson. Those blessed by Buddha can sample meatless dishes from throughout Asia, plus enjoy entertainment, games for the kids and a fashion show featuring traditional Eastern clothing. The event is 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Admission is free, but you must purchase tickets for food and entertainment.
Sun., May 14, 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
