The holidays cast a glow of childhood wonder and innocence over everything, and in this glow a giant man-child in tights screaming that he knows Santa became a comical and endearing thing. In the instant holiday classic Elf, Will Ferrell’s Buddy can insult Peter Dinklage’s stature, pour syrup over everything and sing along while Zooey Deschanel showers — and none of it is creepy, because Buddy is a naive elf far from his North Pole home. Maybe it's the magic of Christmas, but we tend to think the magic of Ferrell carries the film. Watch the perfection that made Elf one of the best Christmas films ever, when the J. Erik Jonsson Library, 1515 Young St., screens Elf from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday in the 2nd Floor Children’s Center. The library continues the holiday film fun with The Polar Express at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 20. Visit dallaslibrary2.org.
