Get your head in the clouds, y’all—summer is finally over, the temps outside are once again mostly bearable, and outdoor recreation is once again a thing we can do without considerable discomfort. And the sky’s the limit this particular weekend, kind of literally, as the Plano Balloon Festival lifts off for its thirty-third year of hot air hijinks. On Friday through Sunday the skies of Plano will fill with the colorful spheres—not to mention the sounds of free concerts and the smell of food from vendors located throughout Oak Point Park, 2801 East Spring Creek Parkway. Aside from planned balloon launches each night at 6 p.m. and at 7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday morning, skydivers will float to the ground daily at 5:30 p.m., burners will fire for an ethereal balloon glow Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., and fireworks will shoot off on Saturday night at 9 p.m. There’s also a kiddy zone, where the littles can burn off some of their own hot air throughout the weekend. Tickets are $5 for adults, free for kids under 36 inches, and $4 for seniors. Gates are open from 4 p.m. Friday, 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Saturday, and 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday. Visit planoballoonfest.org for more.
Fri., Sept. 19, 5 p.m.; Sundays, 6 a.m. Starts: Sept. 19. Continues through Sept. 21, 2014
