Oh Myyy, Y’all
If you’re unfamiliar with the overlap of the Venn diagram of nerd and gay cultures, then you may be unfamiliar with the fame of George Takei, Mr. Sulu of the original Star Trek series. Takei is enjoying a huge resurgence in popularity in the mode pioneered by other famed elderly person Betty White: becoming known as a lovable and profane old person several decades after the show that made you famous went off the air. In Takei’s case he’s also leveraged that into campaigns to raise awareness of bullying and the American internment camps for Japanese during World War II. On top of being omnipresent on social media, Takei has written a book titled Oh Myyy! (There Goes the Internet) about his experiences with Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. Takei will be charming the pants off of fans this evening and also holding an autograph session for Takei collectables (If you've got 'em, you know what they are.) from 6 to 8 p.m. at Madness Games & Comics, 3000 Custer Road, Plano.
Fri., Jan. 3, 6 p.m., 2014
