Old School Shootout
Sometimes, a decisively mapped out offensive play is conceived from the recognition of prime, yet risky, opportunity. The ball shuttles backward into hands of the quarterback, and his eyes hover above the clash of linemen. Hes ready to gun the ball over a sea of chaos and switch the momentum to his teams favor. But, suddenly, the defense forms into a brick wall and the strive for opportunity falls short. Sometimes, the pursuit of that magic play overshadows the effectiveness of tradition. This might be the case concerning the unfulfilled attempts by the University of Texas Longhorns and the University of Oklahoma Sooners to break away to the Pac-12 division. All the talk of division shifting aside, as long as this belligerent, old, married couple gets to shoot it out every year, there arent too many concerns from fans of either team. The teams suit up for their 106th meeting since 1900, when Oklahoma was still a U.S. territory. The Longhorns lead in rivalry wins in Dallas, 47-37, and are looking to fire back after last years loss. The Texas-OU game kicks off at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Cotton Bowl at Fair Park.
