On The Right Trak
There's always been a debate about the merits of art school. Sure, you get the basics of technique in school, but can you actually teach talent? There's plenty of cookie cutter student art out there--like the "political" collages of talking heads and mushroom clouds or the "modern" take on abstract expressionism--to demonstrate that the answer is no, but the artists who are part of CentralTrak, the University of Texas at Dallas' Artists Residency program, show that, in the right environment, young artists with different styles can grow and improve together. For a peek at what these awesome and diverse artists are doing in our own back yard, check out The Non-Profit Margin, on display now through July 24 at CentralTrak, 800 Exposition Ave. Gallery hours are 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and by appointment. Admission is free to the public. Call 214-824-9302 or visit utdallas.edu/centraltrak.
Wednesdays-Saturdays, 12-5 p.m. Starts: June 23. Continues through July 24, 2010
