Out To Lunch

Ahhh...remember the days of 2D cinema? Yes? What's that? We're still living in them? Huh. Well, remember the days when those cute, well-made, European slice-of-life movies were imported like handcrafted dolls? Oh, those are still here too? Let me guess, this one's been praised by numerous critics using words like "delightful" and "charming"? Does food factor in a large way? Yes? Well what about lovable old ladies driving the protagonist bonkers? Is it playing in a museum where you could spend a few hours roaming around before hand? Well in that case, why not spend a day at Magnolia at the Modern, where Mid-August Lunch, or Pranzo di ferragosto, is showing this weekend. The film stars Gianni Di Gregorio (who also writes and directs), who plays a middle-aged man named Gianni (go figure), forced to take care of four elderly women over a holiday while everyone else is out celebrating. Warm, smart and simple, this movie goes well with a glass of wine at the end of the day. Sneak what you can into the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St. Showtimes are 6 and 8 p.m. on Friday, 5 p.m. Saturday and 2 and 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $8.50, or $6.50 for Modern members. Visit
