Pancakes. Popcorn. Parody.
“Halloween is the story of a shy young man who comes home and finds himself stalked by a creepy, three-note piano riff,” begins Master Pancake’s Facebook invite for its Sunday night show, happening at the Alamo Drafthouse, Richardson (100 S. Central Expressway). Birthed from the cunning mind of John Erler (Elk Mating Ritual Show, frontman for Odyssey: a Journey tribute band), Master Pancake has developed into a brand. It started in Austin, where it still fills the seats and balconies of Alamo’s Ritz location with live spoofed versions of film favorites. Now that Alamo has stretched out, reaching into Houston and DFW markets, Erler and his collaborators are taking the show on the road. Lucky for you, that road stops briefly in West for kolaches, then ends here, where the gang mocks the mask off of Halloween. Erler will be joined by Andrew Rosas (STAG Comedy, Master Pancake) and special guest riffer Mary Jo Pehl (MST3K, Cinematic Titanic), and there are two shows: 5:30 and 8:45 p.m. Tickets cost $13.50 and are worth every damn penny.
