Party People in the House
There was once a time when a movie about Michael Jordan joining up with a basketball team comprised of Looney Tunes characters could earn a “thumbs up” from Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel. That era was the 1990s, and it was a simpler time — a time when someone actually gave the green light to a speaking role for Shawn Bradley and that movie went on to make $230 million. Relive that golden era of cinema when Sundown at Granada, 3524 Greenville Ave., screens that most curious piece of filmmaking known as Space Jam during their free Summer Mockbuster series at 7 p.m. Saturday. You’ll find comfort in that most convoluted of plots, involving aliens who raid the NBA of its talent, plus a love story between two over-sexed cartoon rabbits and an athlete who saves the day — Michael Jordan, natch. Of course, The Granada has taken the liberty of modernizing the experience just a touch with the addition of live Twitter feeds on each side of the screen — just the venue you need to express your outrage at the officiating during the movie’s climactic game. Entry is free, seating is first-come-first-serve. Visit granadatheater.com for more.
