People Pie

As culinary crimes go, Sweeney Todd is one of the most delicious. The barber who seeks revenge on the judge who framed him discovers he has a thirst for blood and is soon slicing the upper-crust throats of 19th-century London. He teams up with an enterprising neighbor who has a mouth-watering recipe for meat pies. Soon her pie shop has lines running around the block, creating a real supply problem. Macabre, toe-tapping, hilarious, Sweeney Todd is a musical theater experience that makes you laugh one minute and jump out of your seat the next. It also makes you wonder what composer/lyricist Stephen Sondheim and book writer Hugh Wheeler were tippling when they came up with the idea for a singing killer barber. Presented by Lyric Stage, Tuesday at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, 2301 Flora St. Tickets are $20 to $45. Call 972-252-2787.
