Save for Friday Night Lights and We Are Marshall, there are just a few options left for good high school football drama. Well, that should read "cheesy, feel-good flick where rag-tag underdogs pull it together, the black and white guys resolve racial tensions, the cheerleader and the quarterback really do love each other and the beaten-down coach redeems himself to win the big game." Local playwright Steven Walters takes that mix and tosses in some crime and death. Second Thought Theatre premieres his latest work, Snake Eyes at the Mardi Gras Motel, wherein a football coach murders the quarterback and then finds himself on the run. It's like Remember the Titans meets The Fugitive, but onstage. So for those whose manly significant others just won't get off the couch and stop watching ESPN, consider this as a way to get him (or her, even) some culture that's outside of a 56-inch HD screen. With the one-two punch of drama and sports, they will think it's the best play they've ever seen, even if it's the only one they've seen. Second Thought Theatre's world premiere of Snake Eyes at the Mardi Gras Motel plays at the Addison Theatre Centre Studio Space, 15650 Addison Road through April 20.
