While we’re still giggling from The Book of Mormon, Theatre Arlington (305 W. Main St., Arlington) will kick off its 41st season at 8 p.m. Friday with Altar Boyz, one of the 10 longest-running off-Broadway shows ever. The Boyz are a Christian boy band: Matthew, Mark, Luke and Juan (get it?) and their final and Jewish member, Abraham. The show is performed as though it’s an actual concert, and the Boyz’s goal is to save the soul of every person in the theater by the end of the concert (they keep track of the number of burdened souls in the audience with the Soul Sensor DX-12). This is a more family-friendly show than Book of Mormon (notably fewer songs with “fuck you God” as the chorus) so you can feel a little better about towing in children or the elderly. The production runs until October 6, and tickets are available for $22 online. Check out the 2 p.m. Sunday matinee or visit theatrearlington.org for additional showtimes and more info.
Fridays-Sundays; Thursdays. Starts: Sept. 13. Continues through Oct. 3, 2013
