Building Blocks

There's more to enjoy than phonetic irony when a sculptor named James Carpenter speaks during the Dallas Architecture Forum's art, architecture and engineering lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Dallas Museum of Art's Horchow Auditorium, 1717 N. Harwood St. Admission is free to DAF members, $5 for students, $10 for DMA members and $15 for others. Call 214-740-0644. --Mary Monigold

Venetian Binds

We don't remember Italy's green, white and red banner being one of those Six Flags Over Texas. But somehow The Dallas Opera shows Italian roots with Masquerade 2004: Carnevale di Venezia, where the Westin City Center, 650 N. Pearl St., will be transformed into Venice. With the $300 ticket price comes cuisine, cappuccino and commedia d'el arte from 6:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Saturday. Call 214-443-1063. --Mary Monigold
