Roll Call

If someone told you they were going to give you the golden palm, wouldn't you think you were about to receive some kind of awesome high-five? Maybe even from a king or the Dalai Lama or something? I sure would. But, alas, no, it turns out the Golden Palm (or Palme d'Or for you Francophiles) is the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival. (I guess that's almost as good as a royal meeting of the hands.) Who took home this prestigious award at the 2008 festival, you ask? Why, a French drama called The Class, which follows a group of Parisian middle school students and teachers over the course of a year. And if you remember anything about middle school, you'll know there's plenty of drama to be had among youngsters in that demographic. The film was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film this year. It's playing this weekend and next weekend at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St. Showtimes are 6 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. Fridays, 5 p.m. Saturdays, and 2 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. Sundays.
