Run the Rock
While most Dallasites are safely tucked away within the confines of their air-conditioned homes cooled to exactly 72 degrees, a light breeze wafting, a tall glass of a refreshing bubbly beverage in your hand while hunky men...Oh, sorry. We mean, while we're cool and comfy, the braver among us will be baking in the sun along the trails at White Rock Lake for the 5K/15K Too Hot To Handle run taking place July 26 at Winfrey Point. People will begin getting sweaty at 7:45 a.m. with registration and packet pickup starting at 6:30 a.m. Awards will be given to runners in categories such as overall male and female and top three Clydesdales. Scoff as you might at the concept of a run in late July, rest assured that the proceeds will be going to a good cause, namely the puppies and kitties of Protective Animal League. Registration at packet pickup is $20, and race-day registration is $25. T-shirts will be provided for all participants, and nifty door prizes are available for the winning from the Cooper Fitness Center after the race. Double Your Pleasure
If you really want to find out who's putting more effort into your relationship, hop on a tandem bicycle--the bike made for two--with your significant other. The Dallas Area Tandem Enthusiasts presents rides almost every weekend in various locations around Texas. On Saturday the club is headed for Copperas Cove in Central Texas. The ride is sponsored by DATES members Brad and Tacey Heppler, who wanted to share the route with other tandem cyclists. It's a non-supported ride, which means there won't be any mechanical assistance if you get a flat tire. It happens Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at Copperas Cove City Park.
