Running On Full
Cliched Holiday Generalization No. 1: With the holidays coming, and considering the booze required to endure family and office parties, you're gonna be packing on the pounds starting today. Cliched Holiday Generalization No. 2: There's a good chance you'll make a New Year's resolution to start exercising in about a month. Enter the Turkey Trot, an eight-mile race that completely confounds holiday cliches. The Thanksgiving Day tradition has been going for 40 years, but I'm running it for the first time this year, opting for the shorter three-mile course. The run fits into my fitness plan, which involves lifting household objects, sit-ups and jogging--basically, anything to avoid a gym membership, which would cut into my holiday drinking budget. It's too late to register, but you can watch from the sidelines of the courses, which both start at the intersection of Young and Ervay streets and end at or near City Hall. The full race begins at 9 a.m., and the three-mile version starts at 9:15 a.m. Thursday. Check thetrot.com for maps and more information.
