Salute Your Shorts
The Academy Awards are the number one awards show you really don't have to sit through start to finish, unless you're generally interested in the politically correct quips of whatever A-list host they have as the emcee of the evening. All of the awards in the middle of the broadcast are usually lost on the general blockbuster movie-going public, too. However, should this be the year you choose to watch the entire show and are interested in actually seeing some of the films nominated (rather than searching for them on IMDB mid-broadcast), you're in luck. The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St., will be screening all ten of the live-action and animated shorts nominated for Academy Awards this year just in time for Sunday's big show. Starting at 6 p.m. Friday, the Modern will show the live-action short nominees, directly followed by the animated short nominees at 8 p.m. The animated shorts repeat again at 5 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday, followed by the live-action shorts films at 4 p.m. Sunday. And even though you might still care less about who wins the Oscar for sound mixing, at least you'll be two categories closer to Hollywood. For tickets and more information, visit themodern.org.
