Del Shores, the playwright responsible for Sordid Lives, Daddy’s Dyin’ (Who’s Got the Will?) and Yellow, is in recent years trying out a new way to write for the stage: stand-up comedy. Wrapping up a 39-city tour in his native Texas, the multifaceted talent — by turns sweet and catty — will dish about his “slut” years and the people he’s worked with in film, television and theater. Hopefully he’ll share a little about growing up Texan, too, as one of his funniest lines is about the rather un-P.C. time and place he came from: “For the first 17 years of my life, I thought ‘Jew’ was a verb.” Del Shores: Sordid Confessions, which will be filmed for a subsequent DVD release, has two shows at 5 and 8 p.m. Friday at the Rose Room at Station 4, 3911 Cedar Springs Road. Tickets ($30 for VIP front table seating, for those who want to ensure they’ll be captured on camera; $20 for other seats; and $10 for standing room) and more information are available at delshores.tix.com.
Fri., Jan. 27, 5 & 8 p.m., 2012
