Scrooge: Better Late than Never

Ah, Ebeneezer Scrooge, what a fine symbol of redemption he is. Listen and learn, children: You can spend nearly all your life as the meanest, most miserly SOB on the planet. Just make sure that before the end comes, you get sappy and buy some poor family a goose. All will be forgiven. Sin and redemption: They’re like a game of blackjack, and you have know when to hit and when to break out with the Christmas cheer. OK, so maybe that’s a somewhat cynical take on A Christmas Carol. Tell you what, kids, head to NorthPark Center, 8687 N. Central Expressway, where John Hardman of Le Theatre de Marionette will bring the lovable skinflint to a more charming life with the Scrooge Puppet Theater, on the mall’s lower level near Dillard’s. It’s free, and shows begin at the bottom of every hour, 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday and 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Christmas Eve. Enjoy the puppetry and humor now, children. There’ll be time for cynical blackness soon enough — when you turn 13.
Mondays-Saturdays, 11:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m.; Sundays, 12:30-6:30 p.m.; Sat., Dec. 24, 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Starts: Dec. 15. Continues through Dec. 23, 2011
